There are four major teams in Rio,

Vasco, Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo. All rivaliries are valid and disputed. Each clasico has its name.

Flamengo x Fluminense / Classicos dos Classicos. Traditionally the biggest rivalry since it involves two clubs historically linked. Fla´s football side comes from a dissidance from Flu´s traditionally elite white only side.

Vasco x Flamengo / Classico dos Milhoes (of the Millions). The two most supported sides in Rio, and recently most disputed. These two teams HATE each other to the bone. Flamengos crowds are more numerous, Vasco´s more fanatic and hardcore.

Fluminense x Botafogo / Classico Vovo (Grandfather Classico). The cities two oldest sides.

Vasco x Botafogo / Classico preto e branco (Black & White Battle). Both teams wear black and white.

Vasco x Fluminense / Social Differences. Flu is in Rios wealth south zone, Vasco in the cities rough working class upper zone, this reflects upon the supporters. Flu was traditionally an ´englishmans´side, white only; Vasco a portugeese immigrants working class side that oppened the doors to black players in 1923.

Flamengo x Botafogo./ No name to it. Perhaps the least important, but in the sixties Botafogo´s brilliant side ran over Fla every time, so within older Fla fans there is an anguish towards Botafogo.
