BIRMINGHAM, England (CP) - Birmingham City managing director Karren Brady, who is married to Canadian soccer player Paul Peschisolido, will undergo surgery for a brain aneurysm.

Brady is the highest ranking female executive in English soccer. She will need about a month to recover from the surgery, the club said in a statement Thursday.

"I would like to thank everybody for their messages of support and I plan to be back at work as soon as I possibly can," said Brady, whose biography lists her age in the mid-30s.

The aneurysm was discovered Wednesday and was caught early.

"Obviously this has come as a big shock to me and my family, but I am in very capable hands and diagnosing the condition this early is very encouraging," she said.

Brady and Peschisolido have two children.

A former Canadian international, Peschisolido now plays for Derby County of the Football League Championship, one notch below the Premiership.

The Toronto native earned 51 caps from 1992-2003.

DERBY, England (CP) - Canadian Paul Peschisolido will assist Derby County interim manager Terry Westley for the remainder of the season.

Peschisolido is also a striker for the club, which fired boss Phil Brown after just seven months. Derby reached the playoffs in the League Championship last year but is currently in 19th place in the division below the Premiership with a record of 6-10-14.

The Rams are also coming off a 3-1 lost to lower-division Colchester on Saturday in FA Cup play.

"It's been a tough week for everyone involved with the club but now it's vital that we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down and get down to the business of getting this club where it should be - which is a hell of a lot higher than it is," Peschisolido told the team's official website.

It's also been a tough time for Peschisolido on a personal level. His wife Karren Brady, the managing director of Birmingham City, is scheduled to undergo surgery for a brain aneurysm later this week.

Brady is the highest ranking female executive in English soccer.

Peschisolido, who has seven goals this season, may miss Wednesday's game against Sheffield United with a back injury.

Peschisolido, a 34-year-old Toronto native, earned 51 caps playing for Canada from 1992 to 2003.
