Mark 'Speedy' Gonzalez

Chileno2010-05-12 22:33:09 +0000 #1
Raised by Universidad Catolica, the fastest player in the Chilean squad. I think Mark is finally out of injuries and slowly but steadily regaining his form He deserves a thread now, I think we will see more of him in the days to come.

He might be back in the Chilean NT if he keeps this up.

1) 1 GOL against Real Madrid.

2) 2 Assists in the 4-0 against Murcia

3) 1 GOL against Athletic Bilbao:

Watching this video on his last match I can see Mark still has his main weapon. SPEED. But I think he's developing his proficiency with headers as well. This might give him the edge over Jimenez...Jimenez is still my first option though, because his first touch is better as well as his setup and shooting technique. But it wouldn't hurt Chile to have some aerial threat as well... like back in '98.

I wonder how 'Speedy' will adapt to Bielsa's 3-man forward line. He spoke a while ago about not really being used to playing as a LW with offensive consistency -- that's if he gets called by Bielsa for big games, which might be hard with the way that others are playing right now. Still, I think that Mark Gonzalez is good enough to be among Chile's best 23 players, especially now that he's adding a few more dimensions to his game.

I think Bielsa could put him if Chile is playing short oponents, then we could use Mark's heading ability to our advantage. I think he should be a starter against Bolivians for example.

I think this guy is very good. I like him as a player. Hes certainly extra bonus for any squad.

Yeah, he's doing reasonably well now after shaking off a few injuries. He's still improving.
