Forget about David Pizarro, he said he was out of the team(his own choice), besides he has spent most of his time in the bench of Inter. His talent will be missed, but his physique is just too small, even by Chilean standards. If he ever wishes to come back I'm sure Acosta will accept him back in the team.

Mati Fernandez (20)

He is one of the great talents of Chile. He is currently playing at Colo-Colo, I think he is fine there for now, Colo-Colo's Argie coach "Pichi" Borgi (WC winner with Argentina) knows about good south american football and I think Mati has a lot to learn from him before moving to a bigger club elsewere. He is also studying at Uni!! A rarity in the world of football!! Talent and brains are a huge adition to any team.

Although Mati has proven himself in Colo-Colo he has yet to be tested in the senior Chilean team. It will be hard for him to get a position there considering the Chilean midfield is one of its strong points.

Other Colo-Colo stars are Valdivia and Suazo. Both were in the Chilean team for the Europe friendlies: Ireland 0:1 Chile, Ivory Coast 1:1 Chile, Sweden 1:1 Chile.

Valdivia (23) played all matches except the one against Ivory Coast (I think), he played particulary well against Sweden where he was chosen man of the match. Good feel for the ball, he is one of those players that don't let go easily. He was injured or in bench during most of the qualies (The previous Chilean coach Juvenal Olmos rarely used him, he prefered Pizarro.)

The other Colo-Colo gem (and a revelation during the Euro tour) is "Chupete" Suazo (25).

Scored 2 of the 3 Chilean goals. He works increadibly well with Valdivia, in Chile he is scoring like crazy. He wasn't given a chance in the senior team during qualies, many believe it was becuase during that time he played for a smaller chilean team. Now in Colo-Colo he finally cought the attention of the DT and proved to be a great weapon upfront. Chile has finally found a decent striker. Since the good'ol days of Salas and Zamorano Chile has lacked a decent strike force, with Suazo one of these slots will be filled.

...any other youth comming through...thankfully yes! And it's someone who may fill that remaining spot next to Suazo. He is still a kid, but he has some talent and should be mature for the upcomming qualies.

Alexis Sánchez (18)

Currently plays for Cobreloa(CHI) but has been bought by Udinese(ITA). Hopefully he will mature in Europe. He only played a couple of minutes against Ireland but he played much more against Sweden where he did some great plays and showed his great skills. His slim physique was a disadvantage but if there is a league that can make him physically fit that is the Italian league. Best wishes for him! We need another striker and we are complete!

More goals of Mati Fernandez, Valdivia and other Colo-Colo players (2005)...

More goals of Suazo and Mati...(2006)

Suazo combining with Valdivia for Chile's draw against Sweden.
