Full syn. 15w40 Royal Purple or Mobil 1. Don't waist you money on motor bike specific oil. It's all over priced hype!

I'd stick with semi if you're already running it. Yea, it's pricey, but if you search around you'll find there are potential consequences to downgrading to regular oil. And if you're only changing your oil twice a year like many riders (beginning and end of the season) then it really isn't costing you that much more than regular oil.

Yes, it's OK. The engine will not suddenly glue itself together or do anything else harmful.

Hype or not if you go for regular motor oil then you need to go with the motorcycle rated stuff if your bike has a wet clutch. The new "low friction" car oils can make a motorcycle wet clutch slip due to being so slippery.

Oddly enough oils like Mobil1 and some other sythetics and semi synthetics do not have this issue despite being rated for car use rather than motorcycle use.

I know this is counter to all those above calling for you to stick with synthetic. Staying with synth may or may not provide more protection to your engine over the long term. A lot would depend on how you ride and how often you change your oil and filter.

Are the synthetics better oils? Definetly. Do our engines NEED that advantage? That is debatable. They were designed with bearing surfaces sufficient in size to provide a long life using regular motor oils. A life that is likely far higher than many of us give the engineers credit for. However using synthetic may raise that figure. It's hard to say since not many folks own and run the bike for that long.

On the other hand if your bike calls for a particular synthetic brand of oil you'll want to stick with that. My motard, for example, specifies synthetic only for use.
