This is on a new gs500e.
from cold, its easy to get it into first and ride off, but sometimes when stop at a red light and put shift into neutral, it hard to get it into first gear and ride off. It stays in neutral, i try it a good 4-5 times before it shifts into 1st. sometimes i have to shift into 2nd and then kick it back down to first.
I have tried it with clutch all the way in or 1/5th in to see if it would make any difference, but no go.
any ideas?

lightly release the clutch a small amount and try. practice where the take up is while in gear.
it will probably improve while everything breaks in.
how many k's? i would change the oil too.

try rocking bike back and forth a bit with clutch in. Sometimes you need to losen things up if you just came to a stop and down shifted a few gears while sitting stationary. Plus try shifting as your slowing down to a stop .

thanks 5thg.. yeh thats what i've been donig, and i do go down to 1st while coming to a stop..just sometimes when i know its gonna be a long stop i shift into N. read somewhere i have to shift down gradually to a stop, cannot shift down at once from 4-5 to 1st. so that it doesn't stick.
just that , other bike i rode on, didnt' have this issue.

No bike will shift from 4 the to 1st at a dead stop transmission will bind up.

sorry i meant, 4,3,2,1.. of course not 4-1. by gradually i mean, kinda shift down and letting go clutch, then shift down again....
