Fork oil & Suspension

The 2003 honda f4i manual doesn't say anything about suspension maintenance. How often do I need to change the fork oil and what kind of maintenance do I need to do on the suspension if any?

I would change fork oil every couple of years. Elf 4W works great for me. at the 50KKm mark I would replace the rear shock

I agree that every couple of years is OK to change fork oil. The main thing that will cause fork oil to break down is heat. The worst case scenario from the forks' point of view would be a very hot summer day on a very bumpy road. When the oil is forced through the small orifices that accomplish the damping the friction heats the oil up. The higher the ambient temperature, the harder it is for the fork to dissipate the heat.

Stick with the recommended weight of oil. Sportbikes usually use 5WT, check your manual. No matter what a service tech / manager tells you do not put in thicker oil. It simply increases the risk of blowing fork seals.

good luck
