Marquez/Vasquez IV

Showtime is replaying the trilogy all week, probably the smartest thing they ever did. For those who haven't seen it, it's probably one of the best trilogies ever. This is a fight for the true fans of boxing and I think it will deliver again. Their styles are just made for exciting fights. The fight is this Saturday. I think Marquez got robbed in the last one, but think Vasquez will slug out a victory.

For those with Direct TV, trilogy replays will be on Showtime and T101.

I find this trilogy over rated. Mainly because I hated the stoppages for the first two fights and then I thought the decision in the 3rd fight was wrong.

I don't put this up there with the Gatti/Ward, Morales/Barrera, Ali/Frazier, truly great trilogies. These fights have some good action but I don't think they are great.

With that said, I'll take Marquez. Which will end up giving us a fifth fight.

I've never even heard of a 4th fight in recent memory. I think some of the old throwback fighters had up to 4 fights. I still think this is the best fight either fighter could have taken.

Both the first 2 Barrera/Morrales fights had shady decisions, but no one cared because they were amazing fights. Did anyone truely lose either of those fights? Same can said for Vasquez/Marquez. These fights are what defined both fighters.

I think Gatti/Ward I was one of the greatest fights ever, the second was damn good, but the third was one sided.

Comparing anything to Ali/Frazier isn't fair, so I'll skip this comment.

Personally, I think this trilogy was equally as good as Barrera/Morrales and better than Gatti/Ward. Again, that's personal opinion.

The first 2 Vasquez/Marquez fights were absolute wars. I don't think either stoppages were wrong. Marquez could have taken some serious brain damage in the 2nd fight. The third was a bad decision.....but Marquez did lose a point for a low blow and got knocked down in the final round. It was a close split decision and a great showing by both, so who cares.

This fight is a fight for the true fans. This should be another throwback war IMO.
