I'm not a huge boxing fan but thought this was a great read.

Anyone watch the fight when it happened? What's your opinion of the whole thing?

Never got to watch it live. Instead I listened to the play-by-play on the radio. The announcer seemed to think Hagler was winning. Then I heard the decision and just about cried. Once I got to watch the replay I honestly lost my mind and hoped for a different outcome. That's how crazy a fan I was of Marvin Hagler. In '87 I would've been 16 years old and that fight was bigger than any other sporting event on the planet EVER. Nothing in boxing or MMA has ever come close to that. Nothing.

BTW, that was a great read. Thanks.

It's been years since I've watched that fight. Why the hell aren't these classic fights replayed once in a while?

At the time most felt Hagler won. He was certainly the aggressor. Hagler took the decision as a slap in the face and quit boxing. I'd love to watch a replay and score it round by round.

Another great fight that you hardly hear about anymore was Hagler/Duran.

Russ Anber once spoke at great length about the fight and mentioned a few things that were interesting to me, at least. Not sure if it's common knowledge or what, but he said that leading into that fight Hagler and his team were so excited about the payday for that fight that they not only completely dogged it, but let Leonard's camp get basically every demand they requested uncontested, from gigantic gloves that would limit Hagler's lethal power punching, to a gigantic ring where Leonard could retreat and run as much as he needed during the fight. To me, both of those things seemed pretty relevant to the outcome of the fight.
