Wenger: Jack's No Cesc, But He's Just As Fab

Following Jack Wilshere's man-of-the-match display for Arsenal last night, Arsene Wenger has poured cold water over comparisons to Cesc Fabregas - because the English lad is a better dribbler.

Anyone who watched Wilshere playing in the Gunners' Carling Cup win over Wigan Athletic would have thought they were watching a seasoned veteran in a child's body - a London-bred Andrei Arshavin, if you will.

The 16-year-old dismantled the Latics, leading a young midfield which also included Aaron Ramsey and Francisco Merida. Unsurprisingly, the comparisons with Fabregas have begun rolling in.

And while Wenger agreed that Wilshere and his Spanish club-mate boast similarly vast reserves of talent, he insisted that the pair have contrasting characteristics.

"Cesc and Jack could play well together," the Frenchman said in The Sun.

"They have the same good potential. They are both players of character and they are not frightened of going into the challenge.

"Jack takes the ball no matter where, it’s all natural to him.

"He’s a different type of player — more of a dribbler, whereas Cesc is more of a passer."

19-year-olds Jay Simpson and Carlos Vela also impressed, netting all three of Arsenal's goals between them.
