Wenger believes Edu will Leave

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Edu is likely to leave Arsenal for Spanish side Valencia.

The 26-year-old Brazilian midfielder, whose contract runs out in the summer, has been holding lengthy talks with Arsenal over a new deal.

But Wenger said: "I thought we made some progress but now my belief is more that he will go to a different club and I would bet on it being Valencia. "I'm disappointed. I would have loved him to stay but he is free to choose."

Edu confirms exit from Highbury

Edu has confirmed he is looking for a move away from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old Brazil midfielder has been unable to agree new terms with the Gunners and manager Arsene Wenger made it clear last week that he will not allow the player to stay until the summer and become a free agent.

Edu told the Daily Mail: 'I just think I have better proposals from other clubs, so now I'm sure I want to leave.

'I would like to go as soon as possible. It's good for me to go now and good for Arsenal because Arsene has said that he is not going to play me if I don't sign.

'I'd like to go to Spain, but you never know. I have other situations to look at too. We're talking about the biggest clubs in Spain, but there are only a few days left before the end of January, so I have to keep a cool head and decide well.'
