Mourinho Reportedly Ready To Quit

But at a price.

Mourinho renegotiated his contract in April 2005 and is understood to be paid an annual salary of £5.2 million, with performance bonuses of up to £2.5 million per season. On that basis, it would cost Abramovich more than £25 million to get Mourinho out now.

According to The Sunday Times, Chelsea held an emergency board meeting on Friday to discuss Mourinho's position, and during this meeting chief executive Peter Kenyon is alleged to have asked all concerned to consider a resolution that will not undermine the club's quest for honours on the pitch this season.

Mourinho's agent is said to be inviting offers already from other clubs, with Real Madrid and Inter Milan apparently interested.

The man himself is keeping his distance from any negotiations, it is claimed, in order to ensure that he doesn't breach his contract and that the Chelsea board will have to pay him out.

The speculation now also includes the sensational possibility that Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard could follow Mourinho out of Stamford Bridge to wherever his boss decides to go.

As Lampard completes the third year of his existing deal with Chelsea this summer, he is eligible as a 28-year-old under FIFA transfer regulations to buy out his own contract.

Apparently Lampard has not yet agreed to a new long-term contract at Chelsea worth £121,000 per week, and is said to be interested in playing in Spain.

maurinho is smart ...... but i don't think Lampard will go with Maurinho at least i hope he won't. We need Lampard at Chelsea!

So many of these rumours flying around the Chelsea camp it's so unsettling. The media is making a lot of profit out of this!!!

I think you do have to say the Media are very active at the moment and the Media can easily make something out of nothing but Jose's unwillingness to deny the claims says to me that something is going on! We won't find out out till the summer though I'm thinking...
