Hibernian have signed midfielder Craig Rocastle from Chelsea on loan.

The 23-year-old will be at Easter Road until January, having had spells with Barnsley and Lincoln City for the latter part of last season.

Rocastle joined Chelsea from Kingstonian in July 2003 but has yet to play for the English Premiership side.

Hibs manager Tony Mowbray said: "Craig will intensify competition for places and will bring a hunger and a physical presence to the squad."

Rocastle - the cousin of the late Arsenal midfielder, David Rocastle, who died of cancer in 2001 - failed to make a single start on loan to Lincoln.

"He is a talented lad," insisted Mowbray.

"But, realistically, he is unlikely to break into the Chelsea first team given the millions they have to spend, so this also provides him with a real opportunity."
