Finnan's thoughts on new signings

Steve Finnan believes the club's summer signings have given the Reds a whole new dimension going forward.

The right-back insists some of the new recruits still need time to adapt but reckons their quality is already shining through.

"Mark Gonzalez is very quick and direct. He's had some injuries since he arrived but he's already grabbed important goals," Finnan told LFC Magazine.

"There was a lot of hype and expectation before he arrived and maybe it's worked against him. Mark's had to deal with that but I'm sure given time he will become an important player for us.

"Jermaine Pennant is an old-fashioned winger and there aren't too many of those about. He loves to get the ball, run at defenders and whip in crosses.

"It's always good to have someone like that in front of you. Jermaine can carry the ball a long distance and that helps to take pressure off the team."

The Republic of Ireland international also heaped praise on the Reds' new look strike force.

"Craig Bellamy's pace is another asset and he's great at getting behind defences. Dirk Kuyt has come in and done really well up front.

"When you have players like him and Crouchy it makes your job easier. I know that if I provide a half decent delivery they are going to get on the end of it."

Finnan points to the performance against Aston Villa as proof of the quality now at the club.

He said: "The Villa game was the best football we've played since Rafa has been here. Of course we've got some fantastic results against great teams during that time but in terms of football it was top class."
