Cagliari President: New Players Can Save Us

Cagliari club president Massimo Cellino is not a happy man. He feels that only winter signings can save his side from the drop, but is unwilling to meet what he sees as unrealistic asking prices to land new players...

With Cellino's side bottom of the league and thrashed out of the Coppa Italia in midweek, things could be better on Sardinia.

However, the club president seemingly sees little hope of things improving unless he can get some new players on board, which will not be easy.

"It's not a good situation for us," intoned the Sant'Elia supremo to Radio Kiss Kiss.

"Our League position is a cause for concern, and we need new signings.

"We wanted Nicolas Amodio and Roberto De Zerbi, but Napoli won't sell them except for a huge fee.

"Last summer we almost signed De Zerbi, only for their sporting director Pasquale Marino to say that they needed him.

"Now, he's been left out of the team, yet they want even more money."

Cellino then turned his attention towards ailing Atalanta honcho Ivan Ruggeri, who is currently in a coma.

"I'm very hurt, because Ruggeri's one of my best friends and one of the few presidents who I get along with," said Cellino.

"He's a great club president who embodies the values of loyalty and sportsmanship.

"He's in a critical situation and the doctors are waiting to see what happens. His condition is more in my thoughts than our game with Reggina."
