Beckham to Italy?

Real Madrid director of sport Predrag Mijatovic has told Italian television that David Beckham will leave the club in the summer.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Mijatovic revealed that the former England captain would not sign a new contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Beckham will leave us, we will not renew his contract," Mijatovic stated.

Beckham's current deal runs out at the end of the season and there has been frenzied speculation about his future.

Real did initially offer the ex-Manchester United idol a new two-year contract, but Beckham refused to commit himself to the club having fallen out of the first-team picture under coach Fabio Capello.

The Primera titans now appear to have lost patience with the 31-year-old and Mijatovic insists he will no longer be granted the opportunity to extend his stay at the club.

Beckham - who has failed to win a trophy with Real since arriving in Spain in the summer of 2003 - has been linked with moves to America and Italy, as well as a return to The Premiership.

Well it's official now! Do you think he'll come to Italy and if so where?

Beckham still has a lot to offer so depends on the price but it's not definate he'll leave Spain now. There is still a chance he'll sign an extension as the original report of him leaving was apparently lost in translation.

The interviewer asked: "Will Beckham's contract be renewed?"

Mijatovic replied: "No, Beckham's contract was not renewed."

Madrid said it wasn't aware of Mijatovic's remarks, while the sports director said his words had been mistranslated.

Beckham's four-year contract expires at the end of this season. The club wants the former England captain to decide by next week whether he will accept a two-year extension.
