Looks like Donadoni has revealed the official team for the friendly on Wednesday.

Portieri: Amelia, Buffon

Difensori: Barzagli, Cannavaro, Materazzi, Oddo, Pasqual, Zaccardo, Zambrotta

Centrocampisti: Aquilani, Barone, Brocchi, Camoranesi, De Rossi, Mauri, Palombo.

Attaccanti: Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Rocchi.

Any comments?

I was a bit disappointed in the lack of younger players for our attackers, but overall it's not a bad squad.

mauri?,palombo??,aquilani??? who are these guys...not even perrotta? midfield doesnt convince me at all..

attack...ugh

di natale and rocchi good choice...gila maybe...iaquinta??...

i woulda brought luca toni, antonio cassano,di michele and di natale...

and maybe gila or adp as the last sub...i would have given someone like miccoli, lucarelli or someone new a chance as well...

Nesta is out, he has been out of form lately, so not fit enough to play on the Nazionale for now.

In the midfield, Gattuso is injured, so he has been out. Apparently Brocchi was chosen because he has a Gattuso-style character, and should work well to help dominate the midfield. Mauri, if I recall correctly, is a winger kind of like Camoranesi, and he played during the Ukraine and Georgia matches. Pirlo hasn't been doing well either, and Perrotta has come down sick. Aquilani is a very good midfielder, he plays for AS Roma and Under-21 (he was called up the Under-21 match against the Czech Republic too, but chose to play on the senior squad). He was shining in the 2-1 victory over AC Milan.

I think he, Palombo, and Mauri are all experimental players because of our lack of decent players in the midfield for injury/health reasons and because this is a friendly, and Donadoni needs to experiment new players.

For the attack, Toni and Del Piero are injured, as is Di Michele. Iaquinta is playing because he is literally the only other forward on the Azzurri that is available. I do not understand why Rocchi has been chosen. He is 29, what good does he do for us?

Donadoni was thinking about Cassano, but after that little crisis in Real Madrid, I think that is an option he will overlook for a while (until he gets moved to another club, or until the relationship with Capello is restored at Real).

Looks like an experimental match for Donadoni. Not as experimental as the Croatia game, it looks like he wants a win with some younger players getting their minutes in.

Since Gilardino will be the ace striker up for a long time there really is no need to bash him, he is versatile, unlike the one-dimensional Toni. Fiorentina probably had a say in why Luca Toni isn't a name in this squad, he has been nursing an inury and if he aggrivates that same injury it's trouble for Fiorentina. Aquilani is comparable to Pirlo in most facets of the game and has put in some good minutes for Roma. He will be a big part of Roma and the Azzuri's future. I would like to see Chiellini getting in on these friendlies, hes a very good player, and I was confused when Zaccardo went to Germany instead of him.

Cassano would be in the selection if it weren't for his recent issues with Capello. He is trouble for defenders, and if he ever stops arguing with coaches he will make a huge mark on the football world with his talent.

Looks like we might field a test team as well. With the call up of Emre who still has one match ban to go, Terim is trying to fit him in. Also Serhat Akin and Caner Erkin also got called up. Caner for the first time i believe and Serhat, the first time in a while. 2 days till the game lets see how everything goes.

Donadoni will make experiments, and that's good.

Thanks God he didn't call Nesta...he's only a s*** in this period...

He should call more players from the Under-21 like Montolivo or Pazzini...

Aquilani is a good choice...I see him in the match against Milan and he played very well...

It's a shame that Di Michele is not there.....What he has to do to be called by Donadoni?!?!?!
