Cassano calls Capello

Antonio Cassano scored in his first start for Real Madrid and immediately launched an appeal to Italy boss Marcello Lippi for his World Cup spot.

“I just hope that Lippi was in front of the television to watch me, because it’s not too late to call me for the squad going to Germany this summer,” said the striker.

Cassano had barely set foot on the pitch since his £3.5m January move to Spain and Lippi noted that unless he played regularly, he couldn’t be called up for the international side.

The former Roma prodigy finally broke through in style during last night’s 2-1 derby win over Atletico Madrid, scoring the first goal with a header after just four minutes and helping to set up the second.

“I want to dedicate this goal to Florentino Perez for everything that happened and because he was the man who had faith in me,” added Cassano.

Real Madrid President Perez resigned this week amid controversy over another dismal season for the Galacticos and made way for Fernando Martin. The new leader has immediately installed a different regime, leaving Ronaldo in the stands and openly criticising his ‘lazy’ superstars.

Cassano also had kind words for his tactician, who had not given him a first team place until this weekend.

“I respect the decisions of Coach Lopez Caro, because the best players in the world are at the Bernabeu. When I do play, I try to give my best.

Cassano should come back to Italy. Real Madrid never has their shit together it seems, and usually at the expense of their players. Cassano should sign up with Palermo and team up with Makinwa and Di Michelle to take Palermo to the top. Hows that for wishful thinking?lol

I think he's laying it on a bit thick with this one...not necessary really, but at least he is showing capacity to be disciplined.

Italy can defenitely fit him in the bench. Atleast ahead of Perrota and Iaquinta.

ahead of perrotta? Don't think so...

anyway, they play in two different positions. Cassano will have to fight it out with iaquinta, pippo and lucarelli for a place.

Perotta is a midfielder and is on form right now. Iaquinta, perhaps, but I say ahead of VIERI first. In fact if the cup was to start tommorrow these are the forwards I'd be taking:

Del Piero

Gilardino

Toni

Inzaghi - on form for Milan, scored 2 today

Cassano

one of Iaquinta or Lucarelli...perhaps Di Michele too
