Attack trio on goal trail

Alessandro Del Piero, Alberto Gilardino and Luca Toni all enjoyed a weekend to remember in front of goal.

Del Piero struck in Juventus’ 3-0 win over Livorno, moving within four goals of Giampiero Boniperti’s club record of 182 and reasserting his claim for a place in Germany next summer.

"Like everyone else, I’m hoping to go to the World Cup but it’s Marcello Lippi’s decision," said the 31-year-old. "I’m trying to make the most of my chances.

"Boniperti’s record? Just because I don’t talk about it doesn’t mean that I don’t think about it," he added.

Milan’s Gilardino also had cause to celebrate as he scored his first home goal for Milan in their 5-1 rout of Udinese.

The ex-Parma striker was on target twice, taking his season total to seven, which helped him to dismiss talk that he had found the transition to the San Siro a struggle.

"I heard a lot about my problems in settling here, but it’s not been a struggle for me," he explained. "A lot was said at Parma too, but I was able to look beyond it."

Meanwhile, Toni continued his astonishing start to the season with his 13th goal in Fiorentina’s 2-0 victory over Ascoli.

The 28-year-old, who has reinforced his position as Europe’s top scorer, has netted five more than Sampdoria’s Emiliano Bonazzoli, Siena’s Enrico Chiesa and Francesco Tavano of Empoli.

The giant target man has been likened to Viola legend Gabriel Batistuta, with the Argentine even recently claiming that Toni would net 30 this term.

Italy boss Marcello Lippi will be hoping that the trio will find the net on international duty after they were all included in the squad to face Holland and the Ivory Coast
