Oddo has Azzurri ambition

The right-back role remains a problem for the Italy squad and Lazio’s Massimo Oddo hopes to solve that issue for Marcello Lippi.

“I want to give Lippi another option for his selections and make him rethink his opinion of me,” noted the defender who last featured in the June summer tour of the US.

Oddo is challenging Daniele Bonera and Cristian Zaccardo for the right-back position, already having 16 caps under his belt, and some claim his decision to stay at Lazio affected his international prospects.

“There were definite approaches during the summer and it looked as if I was going to go," said the player linked with Milan and Juventus. "I can confess I would’ve accepted a few very impressive offers, but the conditions weren’t right for the move and I was happy to stay.”

The Biancocelesti’s form has been stuttering so far this season and they face a difficult double whammy of tests against Fiorentina and then local rivals Roma.

“It would be a mistake for us to think about the derby already, as a good result against Fiorentina will put us in the right frame of mind,” warned Oddo. “We don’t have the single superstar who can turn a game, so we count on the overall talents of the squad.”

Many of the players have pointed out that the atmosphere at the club has changed considerably since Coach Delio Rossi took over from Giuseppe Papadopulo.

“Last season we had a tactician who told us to calm down at the end of a training session, as he was worried we’d get injured. This year the Coach gets angry if we hold back.”

I wish he accepted Milan's offer because I see him as the natural replacement for Cafu, however not going to Milan could be better for his NT hopes as he is likely to get more playing time.

He has to be considered, he has been playing very well for 7 consecutive matches now, he should get the nod. Lets not forget what he could add to Italy's attack with his deadly crosses, he is getting better in his defending and that is a plus. He should be Lazio's capitano, he has been leading by example.

Grande Oddo
