Capello snubs Azzurri option

Juventus boss Fabio Capello has again hinted that he is not interested by the idea of coaching a national side.

Capello has achieved just about everything in the club game after winning honours with Milan, Real Madrid, Roma and now Juventus.

Some have talked about him as a possible Italian national boss in the future but that idea seemingly doesn’t appeal.

"I’m happy and proud that Italy have now qualified for the World Cup with a game to spare," said the tactician.

"However, I am certainly not jealous of my colleague Marcello Lippi or of his successes."

Capello would be a prime candidate to become the next Azzurri Coach seeing that he is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe.

The multi-Scudetto winner, who was approached by the English FA before they appointed Sven Goran Eriksson, seemingly prefers domestic football though.

Capello, who won the title with Juventus at his first attempt last term, is contracted to the Old Lady until June 2007.

Lippi’s contract with the Italian national side currently expires after next summer’s World Cup in Germany.

The Azzurri qualified for that event on Saturday night when a Cristian Zaccardo header was enough to beat Slovenia.

Italy are next in action on Wednesday when they play Moldova at Lecce’s Via Del Mare Stadium.
