The Italian football federation has taken a revolutionary decision as starting this Sunday divers can be punished using video evidence.

Article 31 of the Italian federation’s regulations was amended to allow video evidence to be used against those divers whose action caused an adversary to be red carded or a penalty kick in his team’s favour.

This is a huge innovation in a league known for its great football, but also for its very theatrical players.

Furthermore, players that use their hands to score a goal or avoid a goal without the referee noticing their foul play, can also be punished through the use of video evidence.

It is still unclear whether on this latter issue game results can be changed if foul play is revealed by the video evidence.

IMO, I do not think this would be enough to revolutionise Italian Football, sure it is a step but as long as there is corruption and favouritism amongst the bigger teams, the league will never be able to compare to Spain and England in terms of excitement

They should take that policy and apply it to the world cup refs. American sports have used video replay for years to determine the legitimacy of refs calls. Maybe if it was used in 2002 that fat bastard Moreno would not have pranced around like a spoiled little child.

This means that Nedved will be red carded all season long!

Thank god this new "revolutionised technique" is finally in place, the dives have become so popular in the Serie A that sometimes you feel like the players are having a competition just like the olympic diving board competitions.
