Mondonico sacked!!

valdanito2010-05-04 14:39:00 +0000 #1
Fiorentina have dispensed with the services of Emiliano Mondonico just seven games into the Serie A season.

The experienced coach endured a volatile relationship with both the club's board and supporters.

A 2-2 draw with Udinese at the weekend seems unlikely to be the reason for his dismissal but Mondonico's post match comments were thought to have been ill-received.

Throughout the game Mondonico was subjected to insults from the club's supporters and after the contest, was moved to demand backing from the Viola board on Italian television.

However, with the club just three points off basement outfit Atalanta, sporting director Fabrizio Lucchesi has clearly called Mondonico's bluff.

"Fiorentina with a big surprise, took note of Emiliano Mondonico's considerations after Sunday's match, of which we don't agree with the contents,'' read a statement on the club's official website.

''His job has never been put under discussion.

''But Fiorentina are obliged, for respect to the project's importance, to the city, to the players and the supporters, to consider the personal difficulties underlined by Emiliano Mondonico in continuing his job.

''For this reason, in view of our next engagements, the club assign immediately the technical guidance of the team to Sergio Buso.''

On goal.com... they said Alberto Zaccheroni was the most likely candidate to get the vacant position. Is this true? I guess it could work if Fiorentina had crappy full-backs or something and three good forwards... I haven't seen Fiorentina in action here (they usually show the big teams here) so I wouldn't know.

Terim Back To Fiorentina?

10/26/2004 12:40:00 PM

Fiorentina have begun their search for Mondonico’s replacement, and at the moment it appears they are trying to convince Cesare Prandelli to take over a part-time role at the club

However, Prandelli, who left Roma over the course of the summer in order to stay next to is sick wife, seems a difficult choice to land.

A slightly easier road could be the one leading to former Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim.

Terim is currently without a job, and he has always professed his love for Florence and Fiorentina, a team with which he did fantastic things in the late 1990's before joining AC Milan.

Terim's agent Matteo Roggi met with Fiorentina general manager Lucchesi to discuss the possible shock return.

"I manifested Terim's will to join Fiorentina, a team that has remained in his heart. Lucchesi told me that until Thursday no official decision will be taken. Terim is now in Istanbul again. Let's wait and see," said Roggi after the meeting.

Other options rumoured to be in Fiorentina’s eye are Gianluca Vialli, Alberto Malesani, and Alberto Zaccheroni.
