Fabio Capello's appointment as England manager would "devalue" the achievements of the team, according to the League Manager's Association chief.

* "Unsexy" Capello set to sign

John Barnwell, the chief executive of the LMA, has announced that his organisation will support the Italian should he get the job, but they would prefer it to be an Englishman.

Barnwell said: "If he is chosen then we would offer our support to Fabio Capello, but we would prefer for an Englishman to manage the England team.

"Football is a worldwide game, and internationals are about putting the best of your country against the best of another country. That includes players and coaches.

"If you have to go and hire someone from another country that devalues what you have done.

"If we are saying there is no English coach able to do the job then that is an indictment on our game.

"It shows there must be something deeply wrong, and the development of our young coaches is a major concern."

Barnwell believes that the number of foreign players and managers involved in the English game has worked to the detriment of the national side, although he does endorse the skills of Arsenal's French manager Arsene Wenger.

He added: "A lot of people in the game are going on about the number of foreign players in the Premier League having an adverse effect on England, and now it's looking as though we are going to appoint a foreign manager.

"It doesn't make sense.

"If it is not to be an Englishman then we would support as a next-best option having a domestic-based manager who understands our game - and I would include Arsene Wenger in that, because he has been here now for more than a decade.

"Unfortunately, it doesn't look as though that is going to be the case either."

I know this isnt the section for this article, but we have discussed this matter lately and it's so cool to read that the English will step on their pride and acquire an Italian coach .This will only prove the Italian tactical dominance in world football. When ever an EPL fan will call it's league the best,we'll have to remind him "who is the English national team Coach???"

He might not be perfect, but he'll be lot better than the previous "revelations"...

Capello is one of the best managers around. I'm slightly worried about his going to England, actually, because with him they might accomplish something. While Italy has a young, inexperienced Donadoni in charge...though not necessarily after next summer.

A lot has been said about Capello's problems with English language. They might need some interpreters...so what? Surely that will not decide anything.

I can see only one problem, and that lies in Capello's nature. His ex-players have told about his dictatorial ways. Capello is like a chief in the army and will scream and insult his players if they don't obey his tactics. He doesn't respect older players or star players any more than those with less talent and charisma. He showed that with Cassano, with Beckham....

Think what the English press will say when Capello decides: "OK, Gerrard will not play anymore, he was so bad yesterday in training"

I have this feeling that he will not be liked, but he will also bring some results.

If England gets results, Capello will be liked, regardless of how he does it. They're desperate. Besides, though I'm no expert on the nuances of national team coaching, it's quite different from club coaching, right? More difficult to be a dictator, or at least I would imagine.

My bad feeling is Capello is walking into a trap. You all know I think English struggles extend far beyond the coaching, so it could be an impossible challenge. And then they'll just blame Capello if he doesn't win the next World Cup, and say it would all be different if they had gotten Mourinho instead.

How an earth do you come to that conclusion? Is it not possible for England to have an Italian coach and for the EPL to be the best league in the world?

The 2 things are completely different issues.

You talk utter garbage...The beauty of the EPL is that it is the most cosmopolitan league in the world and the foreign element make it the best and by far the most exciting league in the world. English club sides are as good as anything in Europe. If you look at how many time english teams have won the European Cup and Champions League it will prove what I say to be correct.

Agreed the National side are a disgrace.

Capello has a proven track record and I for one will be glad if takes a hard line with Englands over rated and overpaid so called superstars and gets them performing instead of them thinking they just have to turn up and pull the shirt on to win a game.

We have only had this discussion 50 times in this forum...

No, not everyone thinks EPL is the best league in the world. And yes, it is seriously overrated. How many times have English teams won the Champions league then? ManU in 1998, Liverpool in 2005...admittedly, I have seen many English teams lose in CL and Uefa Cup finals.

Oh well...Another Indoctrinated EPL fan.

Cosmopolitan .I've been discussing this matter with a lot of EPL fans, but your post is so amusing...

The foreign talent??? ...The foreign talent is the best in Spain and Italy. That foreign "talent"ruined English football and still didnt succeeded to prove it's quality by launching a Fifa and Uefa award winner.

And if you look at how many times the Italian and the Spanish teams won all that you will see that they are tied with the Champions League crowns and that Milan hold the record of Intercontinental titles in Europe...And it only proves that you are subjective while ignoring the eye stubbing facts.

Dude if you want excitement play some Jenna Jamison and Taylor Hayes porn.Let me put it this way...I really like Alessandro Safina, who is a great looking guy,but when he opens his mouth and starts singing Opera,he looks like a freaking Bjork taking a dump...But his looks arent that important here cos he needs to sacrifice his "Ricky Martin happy face"if he wants to perform on the highest level. The same goes for the Classical music.

A Turbo Folk,Redneck and Hillbilly concept of reason will find that ridiculous and all that chaos of tones can not be appropriately reproduced, because his peri-lymph liquid in his ear cant reproduce those sound frequencies to the tiny hair cells that are placed in it.Why???For the same reason that you cant play on a discorded guitar.

Vivaldi's Four seasons and aspecially The Summerare like a Medieval Iron Maiden torture device for most people...

I know people watch the EPL and i have nothing against that, but to call that tactical "Tom Cruise jumping all over Oprah cauch" show, the best league in the world...I can do nothing but

...
