Midfield reinforcements on january transfer window?

This news made me worry about out midfield:

Olivier Dacourt could be out for the rest of the season after surgery was required on the collateral, meniscus and cruciate ligaments in his left knee.

The Inter midfielder suffered the injury during Sunday’s 2-0 win away to Fiorentina and he was thought to be sidelined for up to two months.

He was initially diagnosed with lesions in the collateral and meniscus ligaments, so keyhole surgery was organised for this evening.

However, during the operation another problem was discovered, as the anterior cruciate ligament had also been torn.

This will require a much longer lay-off and a different type of treatment to the original injury, so Dacourt could potentially have played his last game of the season.

It is a terrible blow for the Nerazzurri, who already have Patrick Vieira and Luis Figo out with long-term problems.

I know it looks all too easy right now, after recent results, and players like Jimenez coming through. But we need a new central midfielder in january. We're missing Vieira, Figo, Stankovic and Dacourt. What would happen if Cambiasso got injured? And we can't rely on Vieira's return, because he goes back to hospital so fast every time.

Earlier we have talked about getting a serious world-class playmaker. But right now the best idea would be to find a balancing midfielder who can play both defensively and help the attack.

There aren't so many of these players, when you consider it...

Do you have any ideas?

Spalletti admits Mancini doubts

Tuesday 4 December, 2007

Roma boss Luciano Spalletti admits that Brazilian forward Amantino Mancini could be headed for the exit.

The former Venezia man is reportedly unhappy with the current terms of his contract and is yet to receive an improved offer from the capital club.

Ahead of tomorrow’s game against Cagliari, Spalletti has confirmed that Mancini’s future is up in the air.

“Mancini hasn’t been giving his best,” the Tuscan tactician stated. “He has to be ready to deal with things and the rest of the team are ready to help him through.

“I don’t know if he will be staying in Rome – the situation isn’t resolved. He needs to meet with club officials to discuss a contract renewal.

“I don’t want any new arrivals or departures in January. I chose these players and I want to go forward with them.”

It is no secret that Mancini wants Mancini and it seems that the transfer has been settled for the summer, but with the recent events,he might join Inter this january, which is highly unlikely, cos he's not stupid to throw his C.League appearances away.

Now i dont think that Inter is in crisis with the midfielders.Stankovic will return soon,he had some minor injury in the training yesterday, but he will take the central mid possition with Cambiasso,as for the wings,we have enough of them.Vieira will return also, not that soon, but as lon as we have Zlatan,Cesar,Samuel,Zanetti,Maicon and Cambiasso i doubt that the team will be destabilized...If someone got injured from these,then...

I would love Lampard when we're at the central midfielders...The guy will be perfect in Inter...

Lampard would cost ridiculously, and who knows if he'll even fit into Italy anyway. He lacks technique and maybe character too (considering his games in English NT).

Alex is more like a playmaker...
