J.Zanetti - what next?

Don't panic from the title, i know it's a bit frightening at first...I just wanted to discuss about inter's post-j.zanetti era....maybe it's a bit too early to talk about it for some of you, but i think it's worthy of debate even at this point.

Our captain has been with us for more than a decade now...there is no doubt about his contribution to the club...His efficiency has been rather stable throughout the years...until last year.

These were maybe the first signs of his descent...he wasn't a regular at first and it took some time for him to return to his true self again. I know it's hard for most of us inter fans to comprehend....but we must think of the day after our legend will eventually get benched...

I think he has another year or two to keep performing regularly for inter in his top level...these are going to be his crucial years...his last chance to win the scudetto and the champions league.. If he won't lift one of these trophies....then what will be his legacy? the captain of the most infamous inter ever?

Now I was thinking of who will inherit his spot...Ze-maria's contract expires in a year time from now and personally i don't like him that much....the solution maybe ODDO from lazio...but yet again Milan are one step ahead...

The man to replace Javier is still not on Inter's roster.......but when the time is right Inter will find that man!

Once JZ got his fitness back and began playing regularly again he was back to his best. He also looked good in the Confederations Cup. I think for now there is no big issue regarding his form and I imagine he will be like Maldini and go on until he is about 37. However his current back-up is Ze Maria who is of a very close age so he cannot take over the reigns when he retires. I think we should work on someone in the youth ranks. Maybe Nossa or Potenza?

As for who the man is to take over as captain, that is quite simple, his fellow argentinian, Cambiasso.

Maybe another argentinian player, Burdisso

Yeah, its way too early to worry about another rightback. For me, the real question is whether moving Javier to another position might extend his career.

Where do you have in mind? If anything I think he will be able to play longer if he stays as a RB rather than a RM.

I was thinking as a central defensive midfielder. I figure his gradual loss of speed and acceleration would mean less there. But then Inter always have so many midfielders that it would be tricky to pull off. Anyway, this would be at least a couple years down the road.

Before I started posting regularly here I suggested playing Il Capitano as a DM in another forum funnily enough. It was when Zac was in charge and CZ was not really playing at his best and Zac also seemed to be quite keen on Helveg for that right wing back slot. However we now have a lot of central and defensive midfielders that I think his best role in the future will be the RB one. After all Cafu is older than JZ and can still run up and down the flanks with great pace. If he can do it then I have no doubt that our skipper can as well.
