Numancia have signed Real Sociedad attacking midfielder Lee Chun-soo on loan prior start of the new Primera Liga season.

The South Korean international, who recently played for his country at the Athens Olympics, joins the promoted club after both sides agreed terms on the loan deal for the Asian attacker on Friday.

The 23-year-old leaves the Basque club after failing to make much of an impact at Estadio Anoeta last term, playing just 13 matches in La Liga for Sociedad.

The former Ulsan Tigers player should be available for Numancia's opening Primera Liga contest at home to Real Betis on Saturday.

The news comes as Sociedad boss Jose Maria Amorrortu continues to shape his squad for the new Spanish campaign, with midfield maestro Xabi Alonso already moving on to join Rafa Benitez at Liverpool.

Lee may be joined out the Anoeta exit door by goalkeeper Sander Westerveld, who is currently attracting the interest of fellow Primera Liga club Mallorca after being told he was surplus to requirements at Sociedad.

Numancia 1-1 Betis Sevilla: FT Report

SORIA, August 28 (Primera Liga) - Lacklustre performances from both sides saw this drab, uninspiring game result in a share of the spoils, and little else.

Real Betis took the initiative in the opening 10 minutes, gaining a firm grip in midfield.

Numancia seemed to be lacking in communication, as they struggled to lift their standards to those of the visitors.

Finally, they began to string a few passes together but it was Betis who bounced back with the game's first real chance.

It came in the 14th meeting when the Seville club forced a corner. The ball was headed goalwards and unmarked Fernandez Fernando fired the ball into the Numancia net.

However, the joy of the Betis players was quickly quelled after the referee ruled that both Juan Juanito and Fernando were offside when the ball crossed the line so it was disallowed.

Numancia, who had begun to produce several chances, took the lead in the 20th minute.

After excellent approach play Juan Luis Juanlulu hit a low, hard, just outside the keeper's reach.

Numancia could have added to their tally with one or two more goals in the remainder of the first half, but the Betis keeper, Antoni Prats, made some crucial saves.

In first half injury time, however, it was Betis, who having been completely dominated, manage to score through a Fernandez Fernando header.

Midfielder Marcos Assuncao, relishing the more forward role that coach Lorenzo Serra Ferrer had given him, floated over a free kick from the right.

Fernando rose high in the eight-yard box to head past the stranded keeper. It was a very well timed goal before the teams returned to the changing rooms.

Both teams started the second half at a very lazy pace.

Neither side showed an initiative and the game was threatening to turn sour from the crowd's point of view.

In the 54th minute, Numacia's Luis Garcia Tevernet sums up the mood, blasting a free kick from 35 yards well over the bar.

Numancia relied on a direct route to goal with few passes, but the policy was easily dealt with by the Betis defence.

Five minutes from time, Numancia defender tried his luck on goal from 30 yards but his shot ballooned into the crowd, confirming their worst fears.

It was a bitterly disappointing second half with both teams settling for the draw.

Both coaches will have to take a long, hard look at the lack of flair and desire from players on both sides.

Sociedad send Lee to Numancia

MADRID, Aug 27 (Reuters) - Real Sociedad's South Korean midfielder Lee Chun-soo is joining promoted Numancia on loan.

The Spanish league rivals reached agreement over terms on Friday and Lee has accepted the move, Real Sociedad said on their website.

The 23-year-old international played just 13 league games for Sociedad last season, without scoring a goal, after joining from Ulsan Tigers.

Numancia finished third in the second division last season to clinch promotion back to the top division. Their opening match of the league season is at home to Real Betis on Saturday.
