Chelsea launch £40M bid for Barcelona's Eto'o

January 20, 2006

Chelsea are ready to offer £40 million for Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

The Blues had an offer for Eto'o rejected last year, when they tabled a £16 million proposal which included Hernan Crespo and William Gallas in exchange.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is now ready to try again and is moving for the Cameroon ace on the recommendation of Claude Makelele.

Barca are open to the offer, with an insider telling AS it "will consider the bid with interest" due to the club's financial restrictions.

Abramovich knows now is the time to bid for Eto'o with Cameroon missing the World Cup finals this year. Participation at Germany2006 would only have increased the African's price-tag.

Barcelona to use Chelsea cash for Arsenal's Henry

January 20, 2006

Barcelona are ready to bid for Arsenal striker Thierry Henry.

With Chelsea preparing a £40 million bid for Samuel Eto'o, AS says if the offer is accepted, Barca will try to prise Henry away from Arsenal.

Barca president Joan Laporta has openly declared he'd love to see Henry at the Nou Camp and with the cash raised from Eto'o's sale, will have the funds to tempt Arsenal into selling the Frenchman.

Henry declared his commitment to Arsenal earlier this month, however he admitted in L'Equipe to thinking seriously about his future last year.

it seems like if it happens eto would be dumped by barca just like he was by real, lol but i think it would be great for barca, i think deco and henry would be the best patnership at current if it happens, plus they wcould pay about 25-30 for henry and have ome left over cash as well

i have said it before..henry does not perform well in europe..i dont think he has the capability of getting to the end of ronnies thru balls like etoo..but i have nothing against it if henry were to come..

well , since barca are open to offers for eto, why not bring him back to the bernabeau

surely he'd be a gr8 replacement for ronaldo when he's gone.

but the funny thing is why the hell do chelsea need eto, like realmadrid289 said.

drogba isnt that good but still, they're gettting results..

If that happens, it will be great for Barca financially, but not on the pitch. Henry wouldn't be as effective as people would expect in spain and other things will follow. Yes the money will give Barca a lot of options but loosing Eto'o right now wouldn't be very smart. I really don't understand what chelsea plans to do with their bunch of strikers already competing for the starting position.. that again isn't a smart move for chelsea, considering the bunch of money spent on Drogba, and the quality in Crespo. I personally think Eto'o should remain where he is and just enjoy the game, instead of going to Chelsea. henry is happy at Arsenal.

Eto'o and Henry can play together. I believe the only players that can not bein the same team are the goallies. Doesn't make sense to sell an excellent player to hire another one, but who wasn't been proved in Barça yet.

The plan should be to replace Larsson with a player like Henry or even Luca Toni. With Henry you have more competition, but probably would be more difficult to deal with so many stars for Rijkaard. I will start looking for a left defender instead Sylvinho or Gio that are getting a little bit old for playing so much games in a good level.

By te way, if you are interested I want to invite you guys to my new blog (Spanish) El fútbol, las mujeres y la vida:

Please, feel free to visit the site and give your oppinions.
