Barcelona convinced of deal for Juventus duo Thuram, Zambrotta

July 20, 2006

Barcelona hope to make public an agreement with Juventus over defensive pair Gianluca Zambrotta and Lilian Thuram in the next 48 hours.

Sources have told DiarioSport that only minor details need to be checked off before an announcement is made after negotiations between the two clubs on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The deal is worth around £14 million and sports director Txiki Begiristain also has the verbal commitment of both players' agents, which he gained last night after getting the green light from Juve's board.

Nothing will be confirmed by Barca until the double transfer is rubberstamped because of a confidentiality agreement struck between the two clubs.

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard won't banish Javier Saviola if the Argie fails to find a new club before the season kicks off.

"If Saviola does not find a team," the Dutch coach said, "We will work with him without problems, even if he will see little first team action.

"We are ready to help him because we want him to be happy and because he will do better at another club."

Barcelona move for Chelsea striker Crespo

July 26, 2006

Barcelona have made a late move for Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo.

AC Milan are outright favourites for the Argentine, who admits he wants a return to the San Siro this season.

However, Chelsea insisted this week that Crespo won't be allowed to leave until they receive a realistic offer, which has opened the door for Barca to move for the striker.
