Real Madrid crisis talks after winter market revelation

November 28, 2007

Real Madrid powerbrokers held crisis talks as they flew to Germany last night, it has been revealed.

Marca says stunned by the morning reports that plans to sell five of their first team squad - Julio Baptista, Jerzy Dudek, Royston Drenthe, Roberto Soldado and Javier Saviola - had made it to the press, Real president Ramon Calderon and his directors spent the flight meeting with the squad's leaders Raul and Guti.

Just 24 hours before tonight's meeting with Werder Bremen, Raul and Guti were furious that reports had appeared which could destabilise the team.

Calderon agreed with the players and is demanding that leaks to the media, particularly those that can affect the team, must end.

Real Madrid president Calderon rubbishes clearout talk

November 29, 2007

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon insists there won't be any new signings in January and rubbished reports this week of a mini-clearout for the winter market.

He said: "We are satisfied with the squad that we created in June and we think that it is the one that is going to see us fulfill our objectives.

"It is rubbish to say that we are going to sell six players at midseason. It is impossible, but not because it is not possible to be done, but because there's no common sense in that."

November 30, 2007

Real Madrid and Juventus have tentatively opened talks over a loan swap for the January market.

The deal would see both players spend six months at their respective clubs with permanent deals discussed at the end of the season.

Tiago is open to the switch, having also courted interest from Real's Spanish Liga rivals Barcelona this month. However, Saviola will need convincing and has only just rejected a huge offer from Spartak Moscow to move to Russia when the transfer window reopens.

Mijatovic: Drenthe staying with Real Madrid

December 06, 2007

Real Madrid sports chief Pedja Mijatovic insists Royston Drenthe will not be sold in January.

He said: "He is a young player who is only 21 years old. He has been the best player in the U20 European Championship. He is the future of European soccer.

"I discard that he can leave before end of the season because with the new players who arrived this year it is important to give them time."
