No agreement close for Real Madrid's Beckham

September 28, 2006

Real Madrid midfielder David Beckham's contract saga is not headed for a swift conclusion.

Both parties want the former England captain to continue in Madrid, with his current deal to expire at the end of this season.

However, the Guardian says Beckham's representatives, Terry Byrne and the former Spice Girls manager, Simon Fuller, begin talks with Madrid, the two camps will discover an important difference in their valuation of the Englishman.

Beckham's camp are determined for him to receive greater recognition of his commercial value in the shape of a greater share of his image rights, of which the club currently own 50%. Madrid will not break their pay structure to offer Beckham more than the ?6m (?4m), after tax, paid to each of the galacticos - and neither are they prepared to relinquish their 50%.

Thats irrelevant, who cares about making CL, im not saying he was the worst player, but they way are team is playing and the way we should be playing we need to get rid of most of the players from last year or atleast for them to play better. ANd if you look at the team, baptista, gravesean, and pablo garcia left, Helguera doesnt ever play, i still dont believe carlos is able to play well enough to help stabilize are defence. Now we have so many new players, i think we could get better players because we still need to get better, its not only beckham but imo salgado carlos and ronaldo too.

salgado doesnt even play, lol

but yea i get what your coming from

but i still think becks has a year left in him, and it looks ever increasing of him being off to america next season

Beckham in talks over mega New York move

October 02, 2006

Real Madrid midfield ace David Beckham is reportedly in secret talks with Red Bull New York over an amazing $100million deal.

The People says Beckham, currently on £12million a year, is considering signing a $100million deal through controversial billionaire Dome owner Philip Anschutz to play for the New York Red Bulls.

It would make him THE face of American soccer.

A spokesman for Becks confirmed: "A move of this kind in the future cannot be ruled out. There has always been interest in David from the States."

Sources close to Real Madrid star Beckham said he is "amazingly excited" about a move to America.

He has become increasingly friendly with mega-wealthy Anschutz. The tycoon is determined to establish soccer as a top sport in the US and considers Becks the star most likely to help him succeed.

Anschutz sold his stake in the Red Bulls last year but still has strong links with the side. His AEG company is funding a £30million rebuilding of their stadium. AEG has also funded Becks' soccer schools at the Dome and in Los Angeles.

One source said: "David gets on amazingly well with Anschutz. There is a real mutual respect.

"David has made no secret of his love for America and is keen to become the face of soccer over there once his time with Real Madrid is over.

"There have been numerous false dawns over the launch of soccer in the States. But the commotion of Becks and a US business mastermind is irresistible."

Becks - just voted "most desirable breakfast companion" in a web poll of young women - has been asked to play at least one season with the Red Bulls to generate mass appeal for the sport.

A US business source said: "The plan is to turn him into a Captain America type figure. Becks's superstar status is very real."

One of David's main sponsors, sports firm adidas, should welcome the move. They signed an ?86million deal with the American Major League Soccer last year.

Even if a move to New York does not happen, Becks could play for Los Angeles Galaxy, a team owned by Anschutz.

Becks and Posh Spice are also mulling over a movie offer from good friend Tom Cruise, who is helping them purchase their own £2million jet so they can make regular trips back to Britain with maximum convenience, security and privacy.

Real Madrid coach Capello: Beckham will get chance

October 02, 2006

Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello has told David Beckham his chance will come.

Becks again started last night's Madrid derby on the bench, not entering the field until over 20 minutes into the second-half.

After the 1-1 draw with Atletico, Capello said: "I decided to put on the right wing somebody like Beckham. With the quality that he has, his arrival I believe was needed at that time. Each one has his own ideas. In addition, Alvaro Mejia had a yellow and we needed to help him.

"We have a good group of 20 players and in the next games we will make rotations (for Beckham)."
