Palacio can't split Real Madrid, Barcelona

December 31, 2006

Boca Juniors striker Rodrigo Palacio says he welcomes interest from both Barcelona and their great Spanish rivals Real Madrid.

Barca had a £13 million bid for Palacio rejected a fortnight ago, while Real have been working closely with Boca since the capture of Fernando Gago, which has included them securing first refusal on three of their brightest young players.

"Most of the Spanish teams boast great players," Palacio told Marca. "Obviously Barca and Madrid are the strongest. But I do not have a preference for either of them."

Asked if both clubs came in for him, who he would choose, Palacio said: "That's an assumption and I do not talk about assumptions. Today my reality is Boca, I don't know what will happen in the future."

Barcelona target Palacio favours Spanish option

January 05, 2007

A representative of Boca Juniors striker Rodrigo Palacio admits any move to Barcelona is unlikely in the near future.

Palacio renewed his contract with Boca this week through to 2010 and his representative, Roberto Depietri, said: "It is logical that he sees the rumors about Barca as flattering, but he is enjoying a good moment at Boca Juniors, where he is a starter.

"Rodrigo is a very humble person and doesn't believe he would have the same opportunities at Barcelona."

Depietri added: "In the future he is likely to play in Spain, if he leaves Argentina. His father is Spanish and he still has family there."
