Raul makes winning Real Madrid return

February 18, 2006

Real Madrid continued on their winning ways yesterday with a 3-0 victory over Alaves.

Real were 2-0 up with barely 10 minutes gone following goals from Guti and Robinho before a late strike from Cicinho sealed the game.

Just to complete a memorable day for the Madrid outfit, Raul made his return as a second-half substitute after three months out injured.

Real coach, Juan Ramon Lopez Caro, made several changes from the team that almost over-turned a 6-1 first-leg deficit in the cup mid-week, leaving Roberto Carlos, Cicinho and Zinedine Zidane on the bench and bringing in Sergio Ramos and Alvaro Mejia in defence.

Real's talisman, Raul, whose last game was the humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to arch-rivals Barcelona in November, was back in the squad after being out injured for three months.

He was brought on halfway through the second half to an enthusiastic welcome from the adoring home crowd in a moment which must have also brought a smile to the face of Spain coach Luis Aragones as the countdown to the World Cup continues.

David Beckham was then substituted to another standing ovation after a characteristically good game.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------Real Madrid coach delighted with Raul return

tribalfootball.com - February 19, 2006

Real Madrid coach Juan Roman Lopez Caro was delighted to see Raul make a successful comeback in last night's victory over Alaves.

"During the three months that he was injured he worked extraordinarily hard," said Lopez Caro. "Right now, he enters a phase where he needs to get used to the pace of games and find his confidence.

"At the moment where we are in this season, he is a person who can boost our spirit by his professionalism and the qualities he can bring to the team.

"Hopefully he recovers at a very fast rate and he can contribute much to the team."

After last night's return, Raul is set to be included in Lopez Caro's squad for this week's Champions League clash with Arsenal.

I would like that line up too, as cassano is a very good technical player, so he linkes up well, plus with ronaldo not in the line up, the whole lineup works hard, but in this game i would have ronaldo in cause it is a big occasion so i hope lives upto expectations. If he plays crap, he doesnt deserve to be in the line up at all. Why do we need a lazy player who only plays for like 5 mins a game.

RAUL IS BACK.

It was a dumb injury though. That shot he tried against Barcelona was obvious in hurting your knee somehow, I have no idea why he tried it.

Anyways, I wanna see him against Arsenal and see how his form is, I've heard he is a bit early in coming back because he was resting and training at the same time SHOWING HIS COMMITMENT TO REAL MADRID LIKE SOME BUCK TOOTHED PLAYERS.

yea lol, he came back 5 months early. that is a lot to make up. I personally see us hammering arsenal tomorow, as zaragoza are better defensively, and look what happened to them. Also henry's pace should be dealt with as ewerthon was faster, and we kept him quiet in the 2nd leg.

guti is the best player this season to me, but i was thinking about bringing him on for zindane later in the game, and well baptista is an oaf and ronaldo too lazy for my part

I think cassano should play too, as he links up well with our whole team, and with him we might be able to recover some of the damage cause by ronaldo's arrival. By creating this time a trio of robinho, raul and cassano instead of a duo like the raul- morientes partnership.
