Bilos to play for Croatia

Boca Juniors striker Daniel Bilos is ready to switch allegiances and play for Croatia in the World Cup after so far failing to gain a place in Argentina's squad, officials said.

"Since Daniel has lost patience with Argentina he is ready to accept an invitation (to play for) Croatia," Bilos' manager Hugo Issa told the Croatian media.

"Daniel has no more doubts. He is ready to play for Croatia."

Bilos, born in Argentina but of Croatian origin, was until recently hoping to be selected to play for the South American giants, but has failed to win over coach Jose Pekerman.

Seizing on the opportunity, Croatian football officials have at the same time been trying to tempt the 25-year-old into joining their team for the World Cup finals to be staged in Germany from June 9.

"The decision on Bilos playing for Croatia now depends on one man only, and that is our coach Zlatko Kranjcar," the head of Croatia's football federation, Vlatko Markovic, told AFP.

But Kranjcar has already revealed his interest in Bilos by praising his recent performances.

"Bilos is classy. We cannot miss out on him. We have to talk," Kranjcar told local media following reports on the player's possible switch, stressing there was still enough time left before the World Cup to reach a decision.
