Rousey controversy

I don't follow judo that much except for the big events like the O.

I came across an article in usatoday about a 17yr old girl Rousey who is exceptionally good. Problem is the article makes her and her mother (who was a world class judoka) out to be an ultra-competitive win-at-all-costs dark-jedi. Unless the article was completely taking many of her quotes out of context and making things up, she sounds screwed up. One of her opponents' said that she tapped (and the refs missed it) but felt her arm was being cranked more and more (until it got busted).

I'm not entirely certain on how judo players handle submissions. Do they allow the opportunity to tap? Crank in a smooth manner and not herky-jerky fashion? Hold the position if no tap occurs in a bad situation to give the ref more time to access the situation instead of cranking it furthur?

Judoka's are no different from any other person. Coleman stated that the arm bar that Fedor had on him was tight and Fedor could've easily broken Mark's arm. But he waited fort the ref and the tap.

So in the olympic if the ref doesn't see you tapping. And you are tapping then the person in trying to do a "sneak tap" where your opponent lets go of the sub and you can reverse them.

That why that one girl got her arm broken. Being 17 and in the Olympics for Judo ain't no damn joke.

That's a sport that requires full body development to be comeptitve on a level like that.

Her judo skills are not in question here.

Well whether or not (which no one knows) a sneak tap was attempted, cranking an armbar furthur is right?

Read the article, her mother is one mean fuk. Unless the journalist was making some things up, I can see where she gets her attitude from. Kicking someones legs and telling them they are going to be killed is pure intimidation.
