Hey, I'm new here and have been training in Vale Tudo recently and have been doing wrestling for a very long time. I have a question for you guys. I have trouble reaching my desired weight of 185 cut due to the intense conditioning that accompanies vale tudo. I weigh 165 currently and I am 5'10. I was wondering how do guys like wanderlei and arona reach 205 pounds yet still have intense conditioning and excersize? I find that with intense conditioning I am prone to lose weight instead. Should i sacrifice conditioning for a few months in order to reach my desired weight class or just stick to my "natural" weight at 160.

well, their NATURAL weight is probably HIGHER than the weight they fight at, but it's not an unreal cut for them.

Now, I'd reccomend staying with your natural weight, OR try some serious weightlifting to increase the amount of muscle and thusly upping your weight. My opinion, anyway... I've never had trouble GAINING weight, it's LOSING it I have to work at.

Sean Shrek has this problem.

I think the solution is simple, eat more calories, take in more protein, lift heavier weights, do squats, drink whey protein shakes, squeezes tennis balls, do chin ups and dips with a weight belt, eat unbreaded chicken breast, tuna, turkey and an occasional steak, and Hustle.

You gotta keep adding calories until you're gaining about 1lb. per week. Keep the cals from clean foods, lean meats, protein powder, whole grains, fruits, veggies, some dairy, etc. Lift heavy, but low-to-moderate volume. Don't do cardio outside of your sport-specific workouts. Save sprinting, steady-state, etc. cardio for the 4-6 weeks leading up to a fight, but none at any other time. If you're gaining weight, and your strength is increasing, but you're not noticeably getting fatter, then you're on the right path.

You're not training to actually fight are you? Because if so, you shouldn't be trying to gain weight you should be trying to cut.

I do not understand why you have a desired weight class that is 20lbs ABOVE the weight you walk around with?

Can you tell us some more information about this?
