Word to the wise about caring for cuts

I recently got cut pretty badly during an unfortunate incident during Muay Thai class. The inside of the lip was cut and my nose mangled. Went home, took a hot shower, popped a couple of Motrin and went to sleep. The cut didn't seem all that large and had stopped bleeding, but I was pretty sore and just wanted to get some rest.

Big mistake.

I guess I should have thought about it, but cuts can easily turn bad, especially when you're covered in sweat and holding pads from the gym like I was. Even if the gym is clean and sprays the equipment after each use, there's still going to be bacteria everywhere. Sure enough, when I woke up in the morning that lip was already infected even though I had tried to properly care for it. Spent the next three days in and out of the doctors office with a lip the size of Nebraska.

Word to the wise. If you get cut in MMA training, you might want to seriously consider going to the doc right away to get on antibiotics as a preventative measure. Might save you a lot of discomfort.

That sucks.

How did the accident happen?

What happened to your nose?

gyms are very unclean. Alot of staph and stuff, so you got to shower and clean right afterwards.
