The rollercoaster ride that is former UFC fighter Lee Murray's life has finally landed him jail and will keep him there for the next 10 years.
The sentencing was handed down in Murray's adopted home country of Morocco, where he was given 10 years in prison for his part in a 2006 robbery in England that resulted in 53 million pounds being stolen.
The robbery was the biggest such heist in England's history. Englad's BBC news service first reported the sentencing on Tuesday.
Murray was convicted in Morocco, where he resided after the robbery, and due to his Moroccan nationality being granted in the country he was not allowed to be extradited back to England to stand trial for the crime.
The robbery that took place in 2006 involved Murray and several accomplices that kidnapped a bank manager and his family, forced them to gain entry to the bank, and they proceeded with the heist of the money.
Six others have been convicted for the crime, and are collectively serving 140 years in prison.
Murray was once thought to have a very bright future in MMA. An altercation with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz in 2002 brought him to the spotlight after a fight broke out that ended with Murray knocking Ortiz out.
The brash Brit got a chance to back up his street fighting credentials in the Octagon and in his lone fight for the UFC, Murray submitted Jorge Rivera with a triangle choke in the first round. Visa issues prevented Murray from ever traveling and fighting in the UFC again, and his last professional MMA fight came against Anderson Silva in 2004.
Murray lost to Silva by decision.
The often controversial Murray was also involved in a stabbing incident that almost cost him his life. In intensive care for several days, Murray survived and then just years later pulled the largest heist in England's history.
Murray will serve the 10 years in a Moroccan prison where he resides.
