After hearing about Tavares being forced off of next week's UFC card because Dana White was unable to come up with an opponent willing to fight on such short notice (which is actually hard to believe these days when you constantly hear about guys fighting on 48 hours notice and what not) I looked around for information on whether or not Tavares would still get paid for his scheduled bout and found nothing on that.
I'm not sure what the policy is in a situation like that, but it seems he deserves some payment since it is not his fault that the match fell through.
So, does anybody know how things work like this since I haven't really heard about a situation like this arising? I'm sure it has happened before, but I just cannot place an example during the Zuffa era right off the top of my head.
The highest profile situation like this in the UFC probably goes to Randleman/Rizzo way back in 2000 when those guys were scheduled to face each other for the Heavyweight title and Randleman slipped in the shower while preparing for the fight that very night and was deemed unable to compete. I never heard anything about that situation as far as payouts or business dealings other than a LOT of people were highly ticked off over not being given the advertised main event (even though the promotion couldn't help that.) Of course that was different management and a different situation all around considering that involved two heavyweight fighters in the main event slot.
