Dana White: No way Shogun is returning in December. Spring or Summer 2011 more likely

"This kid keeps pushing it to get out there faster and faster. I completely respect him for that. He's an animal. I love it. But there's no way he's going to be ready by December. People keep asking why he's had so many knee surgeries. That's exactly why he's had that many knee surgeries. I doubt [there will be an interim title]. When we did the belt for Brock Lesnar, we didn't know if Brock was ever going to come back or if he'd be out for a year or two. No interim title. We know this kid is coming back. He's already had the surgery. He knows exactly the date he can come back."

UFC President Dana White nixed the idea of a possible early comeback for the injured Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Following a recent successful knee surgery, Rua expressed his desire to return to the Octagon sometime this winter, possibly as soon as December. But D.W. doesn't sound like he's having any of that. White added that that a likely return for the new 205-pound champion is spring or even summer of 2011. To Rashad Evans' dismay, White also stated that there will be no interim belt up for grabs while "Shogun" fully recovers. What do we think about Dana's decision? Should we have to wait until next summer to see the best of the light heavyweight division in action?

that last question was worded awkwardly. what other choice do we have but to wait? the guy is injured. i'd rather see him back to form in the spring than a sh!tty version of shogun in december.

also, rashad should fight someone.

Yeah, Rashad should fight someone. If he shelves himself for a year - that's just plain pussy.

Sucks to hear, but I'm not surprised. I hate the fact that Shogun tears his ACL every time he steps outside, especially when he just finally peaked in his UFC career by destroying Lyoto.

This reeks of another interim title...

I don't know any fights for Rashad that make sense for him outside of the winner of Machida/Jackson. That would means we won't see the LHW late summer since a Rashad/Machida or Jackson rematch wouldn't happen until early spring. I guess it would work but that's still a pretty long lay off for Rashad which at that point he'll probably just wait it out. Which would be bitch made.
