Aldo OUT! No one in.

Just days after he was awarded the new UFC featherweight title by Dana White, Jose Aldo has been forced to pull out of his scheduled UFC 125 title defense against Josh Grispi due to an undisclosed injury.

Heavy MMA first reported the news on Tuesday afternoon, and MMA Fighting has confirmed it with sources.

Aldo (18-1), the final WEC featherweight champion, most recently defeated Manny Gamburyan in September. He captured the 145-pound title in November 2009 when he defeated Mike Brown via second round TKO.

Grispi (14-1) was supposed to fight Erik Koch at WEC 52 earlier this month, but was pulled from that fight card following the announcement of the UFC-WEC merger in October.

No word on which bout will replace Aldo-Grispi as the UFC 125 co-main event.

UFC 125 is scheduled for Jan. 1 in Las Vegas. The event, which will air live on pay-per-view, will be headlined by Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard for the UFC lightweight title.

Total bummer.

Since there's not really anything to talk about here other than being sad about not seeing Aldo, I guess the discussion is more along the lines of "Who do you guys think will co-main event this event now?"

As usual, harebrained theories only, please.

I, personally, am biased towards any scenario that gets Thiago Silva-Vera on the main card.

Thiago Silva vs Vera will probably be a stinker, so I don't support that being moved up. They need to just cut Vera already.

What was the new belt to heavy?

i didnt read anything about thiago silva-brandon vera being on the main card

I wonder whether they would push Pettis-Henderson to this event possibly. I doubt it but i dont see how the UFC sells an event on Maynard-Edgar only. I am going to assume though that Marcus Davis-Jeremy Stephens moves up to the main card and Thiago-Vera stays on the prelims.

I would think Gomi-Guida would now be the co main or Leben-Stann strictly for Leben

Maybe Cock Chestnar can get into shape? Still get a 6 week camp? He's really only available name that could save this card. Dana may be forced to put on Bart v Mir 3

Well, we're not necessarily talking about "saving a card" here. Aldo-Grispi wasn't getting many buys on its own merit in the first place.

I like this card a lot, actually. However, I do think it needs another fight that really means something.

I haven't read anything about Vera-Silva being moved to the main card and I highly doubt it will be. That's just my personal preference. I don't think it'll be boring, though. Silva, so far, has been the kind of guy who's going to chase you until you either knock him out or get knocked out. He's the guy that made Lyoto realize he was more than just elusive.
