Possible downfall of mma?

So with all the talk of MMA's untimely demise on the threads lately what do you guys think is the biggest threat to the future of mma.

Having a really amazingly boring, dominant champ could be big trouble for the sport.

to me it is the over-saturation leading to crap cards on a consistent basis. You can only fcuk over the college frat boys for so long before they realize they are paying for ****...although this has yet to lead to the down fall of PBR which is a head scratcher.

Even if they cut back to six events a year all six of those can be great cards well worth the anal rape they charge, and forced circumcision if you wanna see it in HD.

Driveby has part of it, but I think it goes a step further and that is the vaunted 18-35 year old demo simply moves on to the "next hot fad" and deserts mma in favor of it resulting in declining numbers.

A death in the UFC on live tv/ppv could have an immediate and huge effect too.

Boring fights can run off the casual fans seeking fireworks.

All are possibilities but I think the biggest threat is fickle fanbase moving on to the next big thing.

If no "superstar" materializes in the next couple of years I could see the UFC slide like boxing in general popularity as far as a North American audience is concerned. Such a fickle bunch.

The UFC needs a Mike Tyson or Oscar De La Hoya like fighter. Someone who crushes opponents in stunning fashion in the cage and draws all kinds of attention, either good or bad, outside the cage. Someone who transcends the sport and people naturally gravitate to for various reasons. Chuck was almost there but then got KTFO too many times.

I'd agree with over-saturation. There was a time (only a few short years ago) when I would've gone out of my way to watch any MMA in television regardless of what it was or who was fighting. Today there is so much MMA on tv that I find myself ignoring quite a bit of it unless someone I'm interested in is on the card. I think that MMA will always exist in the form of one or two big promotions, but I see many of the smaller orgs getting dropped from television coverage in the near future.
