Mauler Gustafsson

Thus far I'm thoroughly impressed. I love the way he fights, just all forward momentum and intensity, almost like a LHW Sergei Kharitonov. His technique isn't the prettiest, but if you can smash a guy like Cyrille Diabate standing, that's a pretty good start. He's easily the toughest man in Sweden that didn't play on the 2006 men's gold medal hockey team, and the best Swede there's been in MMA. Definitely excited to see him fight again.

Anyone else a fan? How far do you think he'll make it at 205?

I've liked Alexander Gustafsson from day one. He's young, he's got a ton of talent and hits hard. It's probably too early to tell how far he can go at 205, but at his age and with his natural ability he can always improve.

I always look out for his fights.

He's been a bit under the radar with guys like Jones/Davis getting all of the prospect hype at 205. I like him though. I'm definitely going to start paying more attention to him than I have been. Since his loss to Mr. Wonderful, he hasn't made it on my radar, but time has shown Davis to be part of the future of the division. He has shown improvement, and I think he is going to be in the discussion with those guys very soon.

I'm definitely a fan.

His striking has been fierce as seen vs Diabate (who, if you recall, omfgzzz outstruck Shogun!!!! :-O ) and his grappling has looked very slick. Kid's got huge power, and his technique is clean. I like the fact that he and Phil Davis train together now as well. I hadn't realized until fairly recently that he is 6'5, I think once he fills out his frame a bit more (he's only what, 22-23?) he may have to go fight at HW in the future like Jones likely will.

I would change my avatar if I wasn't convinced that my avatar brings bad luck to whomever is in it. I don't like that he tapped with so little time left on the round against Davis, but other than that he seems promising.

i'm liking his promise, i think like tallica said though he has flown under the radar due to Jones, Bader and Davis to some degree.

I'm curious to what is done with him next. I would think he'll more than likely fight someone like Anthony Perosh next or someone low level like Krystof or Brilz.
