GSP in no "rush" to fight Andy...

So GSP is suggesting that Anderson Silva should take on Yushin Okami next. This would give St. Pierre more time to bulk up the 30 pounds he figures he'd need to put on properly, not a three-month span or so, which would leave him improperly prepared. And we all know he's the master of game-plans and tactics.

Do you see this as a stall tactic for a fight that is never going to happen, or is it a necessary evil as GSP makes a career-altering transition to middleweight?

From Cagewriter.com:

"What I said is it's a complete re-orientation of my career. People are saying crazy stuff, like "Oh, you just have to gain 30 pounds and take the fight and fight him in three months." I can't (gain) 30 pounds in three months. It would take a lot more than that. If I want to go up in weight class."

"Plus, (Anderson) Silva fights at light heavyweight as well. So he walks around at … he's probably 40 pounds heavier than I am (off season). So if I fight this fight, it might be at a catch weight. If it happens."

"It's something I'm not thinking about right now because it's not my number one priority. I've had a lot of success at 170. If I move to 185, I need to talk to my sponsors, my trainers. It's a complete change of life. Do I want to take the risk, maybe yes. Maybe It's going to be a great challenge. Maybe, no. But I have to talk with my trainers. ... I have to fight Jake Shields, I think Anderson Silva has to fight Yushin Okami."

"I'm not afraid of nobody in the world. I'm a martial artist. If it happens [with] the right timing and everything, if it is how I want it, and how he wants it. I fight whoever they want. I can fight everyone in the world. I don't mind."

No way Silva walks around 40 lbs heavier than GSP.

I wouldn't call it stalling, I always said gaining the muscle mass would take a long time, especially seeing as he's already a STACKED 170lb man.

I'm probably in the minority when it comes to the Silva-GSP fight (as in I don't care for it and think it's a terrible idea for both men). St. Pierre brings up some good points, however. But let Okami take Silva's belt before this fight happens, at least.

He probably isn't that far off, Silva has been known to get a bit pudgy in the off times and walk around at 220. GSP maybe walks around at 190, I don't know for sure, but based on what I've read and how he stays in shape most of the year I think he is closer to 180.

I think St. Pierre is absolutly right. It only makes sense that if he does move up, he takes time to bulk up. And you deninitly need more than 3 months for that.

Plus, even though I think he won't stand a chance, Okami deserves his shot. So, good suggestion! But that's coming from someone who's not thrilled about the supermatch anyway, so...

Of course I can see why UFC is pushing the fight so much. From a marketing perspective it makes sense to do this as soon as possible.
