This is the 3rd time Ive created this thread so hopefully it survives this time.

Dancin Andy teaches Jr the Ric Flair figure 4 leg lock.

Cbear,

I posted a thread awhile back about how Gene Lebell was REALLY pushing me to learn this and was running us through it in grappling practice. I spent the entire first round of my next fight looking for that move before just deciding to pound the guy.

It's pretty legit, although it doesn't look near as good as the pro wrestling version of it.

several years ago when we were the old board we gave away a set of submission books and there were several pro rasslin sugar holds in it as used by the old shooters like Gene.

As hilarious as this might sound, as kids growing up, we would rassle and I could spin into the figure 4 fast as lightning and stupid old Sgt Slaughters Cobra Clutch is a pretty effective choke if modified slightly.

There are so many "fancy" subs that are cool as hell but just not reality in a mma fight due to getting pounded in the face but would be great in grappling tourneys. I remember exploring this topic with author Barry Eisler who writes the assassin John Rain novels and he puts things like this in his fight scenes in the novel. He leaves out things like triangles because in a real fight someone would bite your balls off.

As for the FF in a mma fight, I think Flairs technique might actually be better for applying the hold than Andy. where Andy fumbled with Jrs feet positioning them just right, if you watch Flair, he grabs the ankle and then spins into the hold while laying down.

That "should" work better if you are facing your opponent and he goes to up kick you, grab the leg and pull as you spin into it and lay down locking in the hold.

I think its much like Andys freak kick against Vitor, it wont work in every fight but under the right circumstance it could.

And how awesome would be be to get a sub bonus for using "Flairs hold"?

Another hold that was similar to rasslin was the hold that I think Korean Zombie used on Lennie Garcia--almost like a laying down variation of the abdominal stretch.

Actually, that "twister" (Dave Vannst) has been called the "guillotine" since the days my grandfather wrestled at Purdue. The "abdominal stretch" was derived from that hold I believe.
