With Floyd Vs Ortiz Fight; MMA Still Feels Like The Minor League

I am a fan of both boxing and MMA , but this weekend being in Vegas and seeing how much people care about money may Vs Ortiz makes me realize that CNN will not air a countdown show anytime soon and that sports talk radio is Dan patrick, Razor and Mr T , etc spent the whole day talking about the fight. I have lost all interest in fight night what so ever Vargas is a great fighter on the undercard, moralaes fights for a phony belt and Saul Alvarez who is one my favorites fights along with the main event. Money may is also my favorite current fighter as well

It got me thinking is mma putting to many shows for people to get it excited about. I am going to YouTube next weeks fights as well...thoughts?

Vegas has always been a boxing town.

Also, a big part of how much the press will talk about a fight has to do with th effort spent on promoting the fight, and how high profile it is. Mayweather makes the fight big. And at the top end, Boxing still draws a lot of cash. The promoters are probably going all out to promote this thing. Given the money involved and how often Mayweather fights, it is no surprise that this weekends low end UFC fight night show is not exactly generating a huge amount of buzz.

With that in mind, if the UFC wanted to simply blow this card out of the water, all they would have had to do is put on a Brock Lesnar + GSP or Anderson Silva on the same card, and keep the rest of the card to the same standard as UFC 129 or UFC 134. That card would annihilate the boxing card in terms of general buzz and attention. Especially if you were to factor in international interest.

The UFC has more than 2 fighters who can hold the interest of its audience. To put it another way, ask yourself this:

How many Boxing fights have you wanted to spend money on for PPV in the past year?

How many MMA fights have you wanted to spend money on for PPV in the past year?

How many Boxing fights have you watched on free TV?

How many MMA events have you watched on free TV?

Finally, I will concede right now that the UFC is putting on enough events that a typical fan is not going to be able to watch every one of those fights. However, it is not a good idea to limit the number of events you run to satisfy a small subset of your audience.

END COMMUNICATION

The Floyd fight is the last thing I want to watch. I can't stand Mayweather and I would never buy a ppv with him on it or any boxing match tbh. He is fighting someone that I have never heard of. Maybe the guy is good but I haven't watched boxing since Kostya Tszyu was the man. I will watch an occasional fight on HBO or Sho but the only ppv's im buying are the MMA fights. Floyd is a sissy. If he would take the Manny fight I... still wouldn't pay for it but I would watch it.

I agree, but i think with facebook.com/UFConFOX: www.facebook.com/UFConFOX in November, the tide will start to shift in favour of MMA

I agree with lord Z and the guy right above me. I think that boxing still is viewed as a big deal, I have bought 3 boxing PPV and gone out to2 UFC PPV so to me I get more excited for boxing because of the hype and the fact that your are lImited in wePons

As for the dude calling Floyd a sissy, a u probably don't enjoy boxing much and you have let the media make you believe that poochiequia is actually great. Floyd would beat pooch 9 rounds to 3
