UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones will defend his 205-pound title in the main event of UFC 140, currently scheduled for Dec. 10, 2011, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, according to UFC President Dana White's official Twitter account.

But it won't be against Rashad Evans.

That's because "Suga" recently had surgery to remove pins from his reconstructed hand following his UFC 133 win over Tito Ortiz last August. The timing of the surgery, as well as the mandatory recuperation period, prohibited Evans from starting a training camp in time to make the Dec. 10 contest.

Enter "The Dragon."

Former division champion Lyoto Machida, who knows a thing or two about ruling the 205-pound roost, will bring his elusive style to try and combat the unorthodox offense of the lanky Jones, who to date has looked virtually unstoppable inside the cage.

You know the old cliche ... "styles make fights." Early predictions?

I don't get how this fight makes any sense. It basically ****s on any sort of ranking system. I mean what if Machida was booked? Were they going to just give Forrest a title shot??

It just baffles me that Machida is fighting for a title purely because UFC 140 had no main event and after what a damn win over Couture??? If anything pull Henderson and give him the title shot. Let Machida fight Shogun or put Rampage in with Shogun.

I understand the fight and i dont understand it. I just feel it isnt right to throw a main event out there purely to save face

WTF?

I realize the UFC needs a main event for TO, but Jones is seriously dodging Rashad.

Funny how just yesterday there was talk that UFC was mad at Lyoto because he'd been on the shelf for some time, healthy and all. Then the next day he gets a title shot!

Love this fight. I think Lyoto will make Jones fight a LOT more cautiously because Machida can counter so fast, is very a powerful grappler, has KO power and has fantastic striking.

Will have to think about it more before a prediction.

From a standings stand point it doesn't make sense. Lyoto is what 1-2 in his last 3 fights and the 2-2 in the last 4 is questionable (granted some people still think he won the fight vs. Rampage, but didn't and the argument can be made he lost the first fight vs. Rua).

I think it's a combination of all the factors you list, people recoginize Lyoto is top of the food chain at LHW, Rashad is hurt, they need/wanted a big name main event for 140 and everyone else is booked.
