Cung Le's reputation

I've always thought that the guy generally had a bad rep surrounding him. even many on this board have killed him over the years. IMO, the guy comes across as a nice, humble person and people have been unfair to him. i've heard that it's b/c in the past, he manipulated the rules for the san shou competitions he entered. not sure if they are true or not. also, alot of people have discredited his skill set, which have been fairly impressive. so what's the deal??

I think part of it is the fact that mma has always been known as the "truest" form of combat sports and it debunks all the myths that swirl around "fancier" martial arts. Le's style is more reminiscent of traditional martial arts and defies that logic to an extent. I think that bothers some people.

I also think its because he's basically had hand picked opponents and hasn't made the sport his priority in the past. He has gone on o do movies, and occasionally comes back to beat a can and is somehow heralded as a top tier fighter. That's my biggest beef. He seems like a good enough person, but his pad in the sport is unearned IMO.

The hand picking opponents and the semi worked fights are why I don't like his reputation. Now, the sanshou tournies and rabid fanbois don't help

yeah, but to be fair, the guy doesn't go parading around saying that he's the greatest.
