July 13 - 18 Runs

I finally felt like my chest was clear enough that I could run. I wanted to take it easy so I only did 2.2 miles. It was all right. Still tough for me to get enough air. But it was nice to get back on the road. It's been awhile.

Did another long run with my friend Maggy yesterday in prep for the Lean Horse 50k that is now only 39days away!! We went 18miles during the heat of the day to try to acclimate to those warmer temps.

The first 9miles went by so fast, we both felt pretty comfortable. The final 3 it started to get tough. I spent two days stripping shingles off of my sister's roof last week and my whole body was feeling it. To my surprise though my quads gave me no problems and that is usually the spot that gets tired/hurts on long runs.

This Wednesday I have the chance to run a 5k race that supports a running foundation. Looking forward to it!! Hoping for a PR since my running is so much stronger this season, but we'll see how it goes. I will keep you posted.

V- Did you have phnemonia? Running when you can't get enough air is tough!

I don't think so. My temp never got above 99.7 or so. But I was hacking up the grossest stuff from my chest for more than a week.

I had pneumonia with a very low grade fever; you don't have to have a high one. What you are describing is exactly like I felt. I was well enough to go to work after a couple of days, but it took me weeks (4-6?) to feel well enough to ride. I tried a couple of times and had to turn around after 5-10 miles or so.

Be careful with the running.

I got in a 4 mile run yesterday before periodontal work. Will be unable to run for a few days. Kinda bummed!

Went for 3.1 mile trail run in Estabrook Woods. I haven't been on a trail run in about a month, since there's been so much rain. I am trying to baby my knee with the road rash/bruise and the thought of running on pavement does not appeal to me right now.

It was wonderful. I realize now I don't do well running in direct, hot sun, at least until I acclimatize a bit more. This trail is wide and clear, but totally shaded. There were quite a few more mud bogs than usual from the rain and a tree down across the trail. I didn't see any mtb tracks, which was good, because I think the trail needs to dry out. And, there were no bugs in a usually buggy area.

As I got to the turn around point, I saw an older gent ride by me on an old Trek bike, in jeans, no helmet. Oh well. Then, as I was running back (the way back is much more pleasant; about a 2% grade, down), I heard the unmistakable voices of a group of riders. A woman was leading a group of 13 riders and it felt so weird to hear someone yell, "runner up," and they were talking about me! Oy, a few of these riders had mountain bikes, most had hybrids, and one guy was on a very nice road bike . I mean, this is an easy trail, but there are rock gardens, mud bogs, a small stream, and a couple of logs. I know I'm a wuss when it comes to these things, but it was interesting. A woman at the end of the group had a look of fear on her face, she was out of control, her sun glasses were half way down her face; I could empathize.

I restrained myself from adding on another mile loop so I don't overdo it.

3.25 miles this morning. Felt much better than Monday's run. I considered doing another loop to make it 4.25 miles, but my ankles and shins need to get back into a running routine I've discovered.

I'd rather ease back into this than get an injury three weeks before my HIM.

The heat in Dallas, TX is a COMPLETE beat down right now.

I ran last night at 8:45 PM- 100F degrees. It was miserable. Made it 2.5 miles.

Heading to the gym to run 4 miles on the treadmill tonight. It's even hot in the gym though. I just pour sweat off me.

It's VERY HARD to motivate to run in this kind of miserable heat. Even more so when I know I have to run indoors.
