Walking - Question for Runners

My goal is to eventually start jogging/running. I've started walking daily for an hour(approx 3 1/2 miles) 4-5 times a week(plus biking 4-5 days a week). I'm starting out slow because I'm over 50(53) and overweight(I use to run about 20 years-50 miles per week).

Do you think returning to running/jogging is an attainable goal? Should I up my walking time and/or frequency? How long following this type of schedule before I begin to jog, maybe September?

It's absolutely obtainable. I would start out getting good, cushioned running shoes and put in good insoles. I recommend this to save your knees and hips if you're "overweight". Then I'd start with a walk/jog program: 1 minute jog, 2 min walk, 1 min jog, etc. for no more than 15 minutes to start. Build up slowly and listen to your body. If something hurts, more than just muscle soreness, then back off.

If you like having a plan, there are some good "couch to 5k" plans out there. Just google.

Thanks for the input. I am just wearing some Nikes - a running looking shoe, not a good running shoe. I was going to buy another similar quality shoe, but have decided to invest in a good running shoe - I know the importance of a good shoe, since at my job I stand 10 hours a day.
